Just over a week ago, one of Europe’s most extensive web portals for Hip Hop and Urban Music opened its doors to the public. A lot of big industry names were involved in making the project happen, but the launch was still able to create an astonishing effect.

Last year, major landmarks started to disappear from the Hip Hop map. Many Labels, which were founded by some the biggest names in Hip Hop shut up shop and decided to call it a day. This saw a decline in fresh acts and new signings and prompted a wave of outcry through the Hip Hop scene. The lack of innovation was also noticeable in most neighboring countries and was even the case in the American underground Hip Hop scene. One of the main reasons for the decline was the lack of new impulses on the media landscape and the lack of new channels for Hip Hop artists to distribute their beats and tracks.

In actual fact, there was a lot happening behind the scenes. Some big names joined forces to give underground Hip Hop a new look and a handful of fortunate individuals were let in on the secret through selected networks like Facebook and Twitter. This select few then began beta testing early this year and “Yomusic” was launched at the beginning of last week and made public to everyone else that had been waiting patiently for it to go online. “We were totally surprised by the amount of traffic that we suddenly had to deal with” says Alexander Goloub, Head of IT at Yomusic. “Even with our solid and tested infrastructure, we still had to work day and night to optimize our hardware to cope with the huge amount of traffic on the site.”

After the initial surge, the site is coping with the high amount of users with ease. Yomusic’s modern look and well planned layout ensures that browsing through more than a 100k of high quality mp3s (320 kbps),videos and the latest background information on the stars is kept simple and easy to navigate through. Innovative features and easy handling add to a variety of reasons why the site has become the choice of many.

“At the moment, there is not a site that specializes in Urban Music that could compare to our portal.” States Zafer Öztürk, founder and ceo of Yomusic. “Even the American competition can't meet up to our standards.” “Nearly all of the other sites haven’t been updated for years or haven't got the know-how to come up with something like this.” He points out. “Even when we were in the early stages of our research, we realized that our concept was attracting a great deal of interest.”

With over 250.000 DRM free tracks, YoMusic.com is the first mp3 download portal that specializes in Hip Hop music. Founded in 2010 by Zafer Öztürk and located in Germany, the company has around 20 employees who are working on the further development of the brand.
